Endothelial Function Test
Now there is a simple, non-invasive test that can detect endothelial dysfunction!
What are the endothelium and endothelium dysfunction?
The endothelium is the inner lining of the blood vessels. It allows blood to flow smoothly within the vessels and actively maintains physiological condition. Normal endothelial function protects blood vessels from formation of atherosclerosis, the cause of cardiovascular (heart) disease.
Endothelial dysfunction is the earliest clinically detectable stage of cardiovascular disease (which includes heart attacks, stroke, peripheral artery disease [PAD], and many other diseases).
Cardiovascular disease develops over many years. Initially it is a silent process. Unlike atherosclerosis, endothelial dysfunction is reversible with proper treatment.
How is the test performed?
Two small bio-sensors are placed on both index fingers, to monitor the function of your arteries. A blood pressure cuff is placed on one arm. It will be inflated during the test, for 5 minutes, to stop the blood flow to the arm.
What happens if it turns out I have endothelial dysfunction?
Your doctor will evaluate the overall state of your health and discuss with you the most appropriate treatment options to improve your endothelial function.
REMEMBER – PREVENTION IS THE BEST TREATMENT!
